Launch of the 2013/4 Report

29 January: Launch of the 2013/4 Report: ‘Teaching and learning: Achieving quality for all’

The launch of the next Education for All Global Monitoring Report: ‘Teaching and learning: Achieving quality for all’ is approaching fast! From 00.01 GMT on 29 January, please visit the Report homepage to download the full report and summary in various languages, a powerpoint presentation, regional factsheets, a video, infographics, and more.

The global launch event is taking place on 29 January in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to coincide with the Africa Union Summit. Speakers at the event will include the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, the President of the Republic of Benin, the UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor on Post-2015 development, and two teachers from different corners of the world. The Report will be presented at the event by the Director of the EFA Global Monitoring Report. We anticipate around 300 guests, including cabinet Ministers from the Ethiopian Government, government officials from other parts of Africa, teachers and teacher educators, representatives of teacher unions, NGOs, and representatives from the international aid community.

A South and West Asia launch event will also take place on the same day in Islamabad, Pakistan, bringing together high level speakers from across the region. These include Ministers of Education from Pakistan and Afghanistan, representatives from two NGOs in the region, and teachers from Bangladesh and Afghanistan who will discuss the reality of their daily work.

On the same day, a number of national launch events will also be taking place around the world, from Brazil and Mexico, to Niger and Finland, with many others planned in the coming weeks.

If you would like to attend any of these events, please email Salma Zulfiqar as soon as possible: s.zulfiqar@unesco.org.

New learning indicators on the Worldwide Inequality Database on Education (WIDE)

As part of the launch on 29 January, we will be adding new learning indicators to our Worldwide Inequality Database on Education (WIDE).

This interactive database allows users to compare inequalities between and within countries. The new visuals will show how children’s chances of learning to read and count depend on their gender, their location, their wealth and what language they speak. From the 29 January, do explore the new visuals on the website. You can download the visuals showing the inequity in learning for use in your own reports, on your websites and elsewhere online.
