Kyrgyzstan approves standards for secondary education

Since 2006, the Educational Program of the Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan has provided technical and methodological support to the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic in the development of educational tools to promote a competence-based approach, and the establishment of the Framework National Curriculum of Secondary Education. In July this year, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic issued the Decree “On Approval of the National Standard for Secondary Education in the Kyrgyz Republic”, which entrenches the results of the long-term work of the Program and experts in the field of education.

Within the framework of the strategy, the Educational Program of Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan contributed to the development of subject curricula for secondary education and piloting of training programs and teaching kits in Kyrgyz and Russian languages.

To date, based on the Decree of the Kyrgyz Government “On Approval of the National Standard for Secondary Education in the Kyrgyz Republic”, the experts have developed an Action Plan for the phased implementation of new generation standards in secondary education in the Kyrgyz Republic by 2022.

The Framework National Curriculum of Secondary Education is a regulatory document used as a tool to regulate the educational process; self-learning, teacher’s work, the school; the development of the educational system at the national and regional / local levels. The Framework National Curriculum was developed by the Ministry of Education and Science and approved by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
