Equal Education Launches Virtual Picket for Minimum Norms and Standards for School Infrastructure – Join our campaign!

Every child deserves a proper education.

Every child deserves a proper education.

Equal Education’s ground breaking court case for Minimum Norms and Standards for School Infrastructure is set to start on 20 November 2012. The court case follows two years of campaign across the country to force the Minister of Basic Education to set a basic standard for school infrastructure and advance equality in the South African education system. This will ensure that every student has access to an environment that is safe and conducive to learning.

Tens of thousands of people have joined the campaign. Learners have fasted for 24 hours for school libraries and thousands have marched across the country. We have picketed, performed a flash mob at Cape Town train station and run 10 Days of Action in South African schools. We held a puppet show outside Parliament to explain the school infrastructure crisis and handed out thousands of pamphlets. Over the last two years we have collect over 50,000 signatures.

Now Equal Education is launching an online protest. The Virtual Picket for Minimum Norms and Standards for School Infrastructure is hosted on Equal Education’s Facebook page and blog. People from all over South Africa and all over the world are sending in their pictures to add to the virtual picket line. The virtual picket has spread from Cape Town and Tembisa to Belgium and New York. There are messages of support for the court case, questions for the Minister of Basic Education and pleas for a better quality education system. Send in your picture and join our campaign.
