Since its establishment   in 2009, Goreto Nepal is actively engaged in the promotion of Critical Thinking by incorporating it in pre-service as well as in-service training of teachers. The Faculty of Education of Tribhuvan University and National Centre for Educational Development, a government unit under Ministry of Education, have included CT in their teacher training programme.

To substantiate Goreto Nepal’s claim that CT not only makes teaching learning activities interesting and effective but also can  enhance students’  achievement,  a three year pilot project  “ Quality Education Initiative through Critical Thinking Methodology “ is being  implemented in Sindhupalchowk district with financial support from  the Embassy of Finland , Kathmandu.  Upon completion of baseline study of experimental and controlled group, Goreto Nepal , in close collaboration with District Education Office carried out five days training programme to 301 teachers, representatives of School Management Committee, Parents Teachers Association and leaders of teachers unions in Khadichour Resource Centre of the district from December 25, 2011- January 14, 2012. The trainees were from  32 schools under the Resource Centre.  Altogether ten CT Master Trainers from the university and Ministry of Education facilitated the training sessions.  The contents of the training were introduction to CT and ABC framework, Bloom’s Taxonomy and CT , teaching of language, science and mathematics in schools by using CT strategies.

The participants’ feedback was very encouraging since all of them said that the strategies could help in students’ active participation and their learning. The teachers have found their classes more lively and, interesting.
